Let's say I have a card that gives a variable amount of intent depending on the luck die roll (be it a "Common Hammer" or "It shoots occasionally"). What is the exact procedure of using such a card?
Is it:
- check the result on the luck die first
- add any cards from hand if needed afterwards
or:
- commit hand cards
- roll the luck die and see how much intent is added
So the question is when exactly are we supposed to discard cards from hand - before or after the dice roll?
> In the case you write about, you can do it in any order (e.g. use a Progress card first, so you can roll a die and see how many Intent you get), then if you need to add more Intent, you may discard more cards from your hand (or Active Items etc).
Only for "Boost you Intent" rule, using Luck die to add an Intent is used as the LAST Intent source.
When playing an action that needs intent, I like to think of the play in two phases: Cost-paying phase and result-resolution phase. If you play another action during cost-paying phase, you resolve both its sub-phases first. Afterwards, you may decide to keep going in any order (without any prior commitment). The only exception I've seen from the rulebook so far is the Boost Your Luck action, which cannot be the first thing you do during a cost-paying phase, and it has to be the last.
If u are using the luck die via a card then u can use the die first and then add the rest .
If u use the die as a last measure cause u dont have enough then u spend the intent first and use the die and lose your intent if u dont have enough .
