Hello everyone,
Before I jump to my question, I’d like to clarify that I never played Etherfields 1.0 (only received wave 2 about a month ago) and decided to start right away with the wave 2.0 Dreamworld tiles.
We are now a few dreams into the campaign and, having accumulated a few sealed cards, we decided we’d hit the Sanctuary to try and get rid of them all. We had been playing that we could resolve the location effect multiples times by staying at the same location (actually mostly used for the Dream Gate to accumulate keys and then enter a dream) but I felt it was a little too easy to just repeatedly use the Sanctuary over and over until you were done with it.
I started enquiring and the only answers I was able to find was that location effects were resolved upon entering the location but based on rules included in the wave 1.0 rulebook (page 7 - After entering a Location, resolve its effect). However, I cannot seem to find that particular rule in the 2.0 rulebook and I wonder if it was intentionally removed as moving around no longer triggers slumbers as it used to with the 1.0 Dreamworld tiles.
Can anyone please clarify if I somehow missed the rule in the 2.0 rulebook or whether it was indeed removed intentionally and we have been playing correctly without needing to continuously ”loop around” to re-use the same locations?
Thanks everyone in advance!
Ben
I completely agree with you. That's the reason I went back to using the 1.0 Dreamworld map again ( I played the whole wave 1 content with the 1.0 map, switched to 2.0 for just a few sessions and then decided to return to 1.0)
I liked the idea of having to play 2-3 slumbers between dreams but I found this idea poorly implemented in the 2.0 map (for the reason you mentioned among others).
So my advice would be to use the 1.0 map along with the Continuous Dream Mode, when you want to avoid some nasty slumbers or the ones that you are just tired of playing again and again.
I don't think there was a change in the 2.0 rules, otherwise it would have been stated more clearly. When you enter a space on the Dreamworld map, you trigger its effect once, and then you must leave and re-enter if you want to trigger it again. Otherwise, as you noted, you could enter a single Sanctuary space and unseal all your cards, unflip all your progress cards and restore items until you have the exact 3 you want! I'm pretty sure that's not the intended way to play it...
