During this (new) dream I gained the referenced card (II-34 R).
It is a note card, so it is supposedly kept in the storage, but it is also only useful on that dream (and the "old dream" version, most likely).
So here is my question:
- At the end of the new dream (victory, S.618), it is stated to "return all cards and tiles of this dream (except for those gained by draemers or added to the game decks) to the secrets.". Should I keep or discard it?
By the rules, I understand that I should keep the card (as it is not a card from THIS dream (being a S II-34), and morevoer, it has been GAINED (stated in s.598) ), but it seems that it would allow to jump ahead in order to gain a needed token in the "old dream" version, as you wouldn't have to gain that card again.
I don't think you will ever, in any dream do as much as when you go there for the first time, so in this dream it is the same. The card just saves you a tiny bit of recources and time, that's it and yes, it is a note card so it stays in your storage. II34Z will stay there as well but will be sorted back to secrets after a positiv use of it. Although this dream is not one of the dreams where you have to go more often (for me it wasn't neccessary dunno if you need it more often) to get all out of it. cheers
My understanding is exactly what Pierre said - the card was "gained" and not just "revealed" which to me means, it goes into the storage when the dream is over.
That being said, I think it is likely a mistake in the script (gaining the card instead of revealing it). I think so, because on the back of the card there is no information in which dream(s) the card can be used (other note cards I've kept so far in the storage explicitely mention that and this one says anytime).
If I remember correctly, this card should have written sth. like "active until the end of this dream" on its front, which indicated (at least for me) that this card has to go back after finishing the dream.
I am also curious about an answer on this from AR. The same holds for note card II-34 Z, by the way.
I agree it is a big advantage to have that. It is the reason I bring it up, it seems "too big" in that case.
Generaly speaking, it might make sense to start with some knowledge on dreams that you do again. But in that case, with that specific dream and advantage (that note card) it seems to me that the advantage is hudge as you (kind of) only have to do half (you probably don't have to find story token A and can go directly to B.
I don't know, it feels to me that it might make any other run in the "old dream" too easy.
I'll probably try to do it and see if I overlooked something.
"but it seems that it would allow to jump ahead in order to gain a needed token in the "old dream" version, as you wouldn't have to gain that card again."
I think that's the main reason this is kept as a Note card - now that you know the signs to look out for, you don't have to jump through as many hoops when repeating the scenario.
